Gander Mountain’s Twist On Office Relocation

SAINT PAUL, March 11, 2005 – It’s not everyday that a company relocates its home office on foot, but some of the employees at Gander Mountain wouldn’t have it any other way.  On Monday, March 21st when Gander’s “Base Camp” officially relocates from Bloomington to Saint Paul, a rather large contingent of workers plan on hiking the 18 miles from their old home to their new one.

“There’s no better way to show the Twin Cities that ‘We Live Outdoors’ than by hiking to our new Base Camp,” said Gander Mountain CEO Mark Baker referring to the company’s motto: We Live Outdoors.  “Gander Mountain is about embracing the outdoors, and our employees want to show everyone just how committed to that idea we all are.”

Hikers will be leaving the Holiday building (4567 American Boulevard West, Bloomington) just before 7:00 AM on March 21st.  They plan on arriving at Fort Snelling State Park around 11:00 AM for a barbecue lunch down near the Visitor’s Center.  After lunch, the team plans on hiking across the Route 5 Bridge at 12:30 and heading down Shepard Road toward Saint Paul.

Between 3:00 and 3:30 PM hikers will congregate at Rice Park in Saint Paul where they will be met by Ron Schara and representatives from the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce.  At 3:30, Schara will lead the group down 5th street to Gander’s new Base Camp at 180 East Fifth Street.  There will be a ribbon cutting followed by a reception, both open to the public, in the Great Hall of the building.  Gander Mountain’s executive staff will be available at the reception.

Many organizations are showing their support for Gander Mountain throughout the event.  The Saint Paul Area Chamber Of Commerce, Saint Paul-based staffing company Jeane Thorne, building management firm Frauenshuh and Gander Mountain vendors Danner Boots, Jack Link’s, Red Bull and Fox River Mills are all pitching in throughout the day.
